Professional Bio

Timothée Valentin studied Economics for his B.A and Anthropology and Sociology for his M.A. in Lille before joining the graduate program. He is currently pursuing a PhD in French and Francophone Studies, and his dissertation looks at the intersections between race, gender, and class within the Guadeloupean Workers’ Movement between 1891 and 1914. Other interests include socialism and anarchism, literature from the French Caribbeans and Mauritius, and French Hip Hop. Timothée recently edited and introduced a novel from Sully Lara, Moeurs créoles - La Fiancée du maitre d'école, published in January 2022 by L'Harmattan in the Autrement Mêmes collection.
