Denise is a PhD student in French Civilization. She is currently writing her dissertation on the recidivists sent to the French colonial prisons (bagnes) in French Guiana and New Caledonia. The project is a study of the 1885 relegation law and the personal experience of the French citizens who were deported to colonial territories and penitentiaries. As a student of the Department, she participated in the TA exchange program with the Université de Strasbourg and the Université Lumière Lyon 2.
